I’ve been a reader of The Valley of Vision for many years.
Over that time, I’ve come to enjoy augmenting that collection of beloved Puritan prayers with parenthetical Scripture verses, so that each prayer becomes a personal Bible study. As an example, below is the prayer titled Morning Dedication (p. 230), which I completed on June 5, 2026.
I pray you’ll be blessed by it.
Working with you for your joy (2 Cor. 1:24),
Darrell

Morning Dedication
Almighty God (Rev. 1:8),
As I cross the threshold of this day (Ps. 118:24)
I commit myself, soul, body,
affairs, friends, to thy care (1 Pet. 5:7);
Watch over (Ps. 139:2-3), keep (Ps. 121:7), guide (Ps. 119:105), direct (Prov. 3:5-6), sanctify (Jn. 17:17), bless (Phil. 4:19) me.
Incline my heart to thy ways (Ps 86:11);
Mould me wholly into the image of Jesus (Rom. 8:29),
as a potter forms clay (Isa. 64:8);
May my lips be a well-tuned harp
to sound thy praise (Heb. 13:15);
Let those around me see me living by thy Spirit (Gal.5:16-25),
trampling the world underfoot (Gal. 6:14),
unconfirmed to lying vanities (Ps. 119:37),
transformed by a renewed mind (Rom. 12:2),
clad in the entire armor of God (Eph. 6:11),
shining as a never-dimmed light (Matt. 5:16; Phil. 2:15),
showing holiness in all my doings (2 Cor. 7:1).
Let no evil this day soil my thoughts (Phil. 4:8), words (Eph. 4:29), hands (Ps. 90:17).
May I travel miry paths with a life pure from spot or stain (Jas. 1:27b).
In needful transactions let my affection be in heaven (Col. 3:2),
and my love soar upwards in flames of fire (1 Cor. 13:12),
my gaze fixed on unseen things (2 Cor. 4:18),
my eyes open to the emptiness, fragility, mockery of earth and its vanities (Eccl. 2:11).
May I view all things in the mirror of eternity (Ps. 144:4),
waiting for the coming of the Lord (Tit. 2:13),
listening for the last trumpet call (1 Thess. 4:16),
hastening unto the new heaven and earth (2 Pet. 3:13).
Order this day all my communications
according to thy wisdom (Jas. 1:5),
and to the gain of mutual good (Phil. 2:4; Col. 4:6).
Forbid that I should not be profited
or made profitable (1 Thess. 5:11).
May I speak each word as if my last word (Ps. 34:13),
and walk each step as my final one (Col. 1:10).
If my life should end today,
let this be my best day (2 Tim. 4:7).
